I met a friend of a friend who said that he used to be a bingo Widower, but was thankful that the advent of online Bingo had meant that he had had partial salvation. He explained that his wife had always been a great Bingo fan, and regularly went to her local Bingo Hall once or twice a week. That was where he had met her, at some charity event for a charity he had been involved in. They had hit it off immediately, and inside a year they had tied the knot. His interest in Bingo had been passing and transitory, but his wife maintained the faith! If anything, it had deepened, and she began to go to Bingo Halls further afield on other days of the week.
It got to be the case that he only saw her briefly in the mornings and a couple of evenings a week because of her Bingo trips. This wasn't an issue to begin with - he had a busy job, and also liked to go out with his friends - sometimes to play Poker. But despite a few excursions to Bingo with his wife, he didn't find the game interesting, and their relationship became a little strained. He said that when he was forced to go part-time due to ill-health he became a "home husband" doing the cleaning and cooking. He didn't mind this, but did miss having cosy evenings in with his wife.
But all was not lost. He had always been interested in computers, and had one or two games, and although his wife wasn't interested in playing along with him on these (not surprising as they were fairly basic shoot-em-ups or platform games). But then he discovered that there were sites springing up that offered not only online Poker, but also Bingo. His wife was sceptical at first, but then had a go on one. She said she found it different from live land-based Bingo, and lacking the atmosphere of the latter. But winter was coming, and one freezing foggy November evening, she decided not to go out to Bingo, but have a glass of wine playing online. She won, and then began to engage in chats in the Chat Room. Slowly, the balance changed with her going out less and less, and staying in to play Bingo online.
Fast forward to the present. He is no longer a Bingo Widower. He and his wife spend evenings together, side by side, she playing online Bingo, he Twittering and Facebooking on the social networks. He confessed to me that he even has a flutter on the Bingo himself now on then. He said the issue was never as serious as to see online Bingo as a marriage-saver, but they are certainly much happier with their lives now!
Probably not enough there to make this into an action-packed adventure movie, or even a short story, but maybe a column inch or two in a magazine's problem page!
Good luck!
